This approach opens the way to highly efficient generation of drug-like compounds as part of a lead discovery strategy or within a lead optimization program.

In this paper we report three thiazole-flanked diketopyrrolopyrrole-based donor-acceptor alternating copolymers as new ambipolar semiconductors and their field-effect transistor devices with balanced hole and electron mobilities. Nitrile groups are introduced into the polymer backbone, and the substituent effect on electronic structures is studied. Different side chains are also involved to tune the interdigitation of the polymers. To probe the structural effects that contribute to the device performances, we provide insight into the thin-film microstructures and morphologies. Top-gate bottom-contact transistors fabricated under ambient conditions exhibit the impressive balanced hole and electron mobilities as high as 1.46 and 1.14 cm2 V-1 s-1, respectively, which are among the highest values reported for ambipolar thiazole-flanked diketopyrrolopyrrole-based polymers. Additionally, this class of ambipolar polymers also shows promise for complementary-like inverters with a high gain value of 163.

Here, it is reported that organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) with n-type conjugated polymer, poly[{2,5-bis-(2-octhyldodecyl)-3,6-bis-(thien-2-yl)-pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-diyl}-co-{2,2?-(3,4-dinitrothiophene)]-5,5?-diyl}] (PODTPPD-DNT), can be operated without large disturbance by surrounding light. The PODTPPD-DNT polymer synthesized via the Stille coupling reaction could act as a channel layer for n-channel OFETs. Although the PODTPPD-DNT polymer shows a broad optical absorption from ultraviolet to near-infrared parts up to 1000 nm, the OFETs with the PODTPPD-DNT channel layers do not almost respond to monochromatic (520 and 780 nm) and white light. The reason is assigned to the exciton quenching effect by two nitro groups in the polymer chain. The semitransparent OFETs with the 20 nm thick PODTPPD-DNT channel layers are also almost light-insensitive for operation under typical room light conditions.

Bifunctional Electrocatalysis on Pd-Ni Core?Shell Nanoparticles for Hydrogen Oxidation Reaction in Alkaline Medium

The development of alkaline exchange membrane fuel cell (AEMFC) is limited by the sluggish reaction at the anode. Even precious group metals (PGMs) are not effective hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) electrocatalysts in alkaline medium. In this manuscript, the original synthesis of effective HOR electrocatalysts for AEMFC is reported. Here, the limitations of using metal-organic precursors are described and their replacement with organometallic precursors is proposed. It is shown that completely different nanostructures can be synthesized by the organometallic route, resulting in the formation of NiPd nano-alloy or Ni@Pd core?shell nanoparticles, instead of Pd@Ni. The presence of both Pd and Ni on the catalyst surface has a drastic effect on its HOR activity, due to a bifunctional electrocatalytic mechanism with hydrogen binding on Pd and OH binding on Ni. The highest activity is measured for NiPd nano-alloy, whose specific activity reaches (Formula presented.) and (Formula presented.) at 0.1 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode at 298 K. These are the highest values reported so far for an NiPd catalyst. By design, the synthetic approach is generic and can be applied to any pair of metals, either PGM or other transition metals, to synthesize alloyed or core?shell electrocatalysts.
